Take the first step towards becoming a New England Control Room Operations Forecaster! Upon hire this role will embark on a multi-month training program, preparing them to help plan the next-day operation of the power system. Work in the exciting fast-paced environment of the Control Room, side by side with System Operators.

As part of this training they will learn to produce and update the New England's Reserve Adequacy Analysis (RAA) and Current Operating Plan (COP) for the current and next operating day, learn how to produce and evaluate the hourly forecast of energy demand and the output of variable distributed energy resources (i.e., wind and solar) for the current and next six days, and learn some Operations Planning procedures and processes by updating the 7-Day Forecast of Capacity Margin. This role also serves as the initial point of communication between the ISO Control Room and the interstate gas pipelines serving the New England power generators, which is included in the initial training.

How you will make an impact

During the multi-month training program you will learn to:

* Perform the initial, final, and periodically updated demand forecast each day in accordance with approved procedures
  • Update ISO-NE Seven-Day Forecast of Capacity Margin in accordance with approved procedures
  • Perform the initial and periodically updated Reserve Adequacy Analysis (RAA) in accordance with approved procedures
  • Create Hourly Forecast Capacity Analysis for the current and/or next Operating Day. Supplemental commitments
  • Take on Outage Coordinator Responsibilities
  • Conduct Gas-Electric Coordination
  • Understand Information Management for Market Settlements
  • Monitor for Transmission Loading Relief requests

What we are looking for

  • Bachelors' degree in Engineering or Mathematics (Applied Statistics, Economics, Data Science) is desired
  • Strong computer skills especially Excel
  • Strong affinity for basic Math (no calculus, but heavy on algebra)
  • Detail orientated
  • Strong communication both verbally and written with a knack for building trusting relationships
  • Ability to obtain and maintain NERC Certification to the Reliability Coordinator level.

Desired not required

  • Familiarity with the operation of various power plants and their associated energy supply, and how that impacts system reliability
  • ISO New England Markets
    • Real-Time Energy Markets settlement
