I. Major Responsibilities

1. Directs analytical studies of potential business opportunities and new ventures, assessing their effectiveness and consistency with UMMH's strategic objectives. Leads the due diligence process in the evaluation of programmatic strengths and weaknesses, providing the economic basis for probable improvement of system operational and financial performance.
2. Collaborates effectively with senior department and physician leadership to identify opportunities to expand services and to continually improve the business performance of service lines and various entities. Works to build consensus in support of strategies and plans.
3. Maintains an accurate sense of the market relative to UMMH's mission, strategic goals, and resources. Keeps informed of innovations and trends in healthcare systems, competitor activities, and pending/possible changes in healthcare regulatory requirements which could impact viability of existing service and potential new business ventures.
4. Leads and conducts market research projects, to identify under-served markets and to recommend viable new opportunities and programs. Develops, implements, and coordinates system-wide processes for the development of business plans for new or expanded clinical product lines. Monitors results and identifies opportunities for continued expansion.
5. Directs the initial implementation and integration of operations for strategic initiatives associated with entry into new business ventures and channels. Initiates and completes projects as necessary to achieve business objectives by reviewing project proposals, planned timeframes, funding limitations, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to project phases.
6. Directs development of models to prepare business forecasts and perform trend analysis. Advises senior leadership of findings compared to corporate strategic goals and objectives. Considers present and planned capacity of the organization in terms of financial health, available resources, facilities, and technology.
7. Evaluates performance of clinical service lines; working with clinical leadership, recommends realignment of investment funds to maximize ROI, targeting overall margin growth.
8. Analyzes existing services, community needs, and healthcare trends to develop and recommend short and long-term plans for system growth. Recommends alternative strategies and/or methodologies consistent with system-wide goals and the needs and trends of the healthcare market.
9. Participates in the development and implementation of UMMH's short and long-range strategic plans for effective organizational growth and viability. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of implementation of tactics and programs identified in the UMMH strategic plan.
10. Supports and leads, as appropriate, the development of new and existing relationships with other healthcare entities and physician groups.
11. Collaborates with the Medical School on joint ventures with the Medical Center and Medical Group.
12. Responsible for initiating institution-wide clinical care standards that insure broadly based multidisciplinary standards are supported across disciplines.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:
1. Bachelor's degree in related field.

Preferred:
2. Master's degree.

Experience/Skills
Required:
1. 10+ years' experience in business development, strategic business planning, and hospital operations within a healthcare environment.
2. Thorough knowledge of strategic planning processes, program management, financial analysis, and market research initiatives appropriate to healthcare delivery systems.
3. Strong project management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with senior internal and external leadership.
4. Ability to lead and influence others and to affect change.
5. Strong computer skills (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Visio).

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies and their measurements, will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.
