GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Kraft Family Blood Donor Center is collecting and providing the highest quality blood products for the patients of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). We are also committed to offering donors a positive donation experience. In addition, our mission includes advancing the education around the need of both blood and platelet donation. We are also an ambulatory and inpatient therapeutic apheresis practice that works under the guidance of a medical director and attending physician service

This position supports the donors, patients and our institution. As a team, we work together to provide the highest level of compassionate patient centered care. It is our responsibility to conduct ourselves as professionals and be cost-effective in our work. We follow regulatory and manufacturing standards of the AABB, FDA, JC and FACT.

This position is expected to conduct themselves with integrity in all that they do, adhering to the highest standards of conduct.

This person must learn and follow Standard Operating Procedures and Current Good Manufacturing Practices. Skills with both donor and patient computer systems is required. Good telephone practices and friendly, courteous front-desk reception skills are necessary. Participation in donor recruitment activities is also required.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides administrative duties and reception coverage for patients and donors.

    1. Utilizing Blood Bank Inventory system when appropriate
    1. Utilizing Hospital EMR and other patient care systems when appropriate
    1. Handle all aspects of donor and patient intake
    1. Handle department phone calls
    1. Responding to emails
    1. Scheduling appointments
    1. Maintain inventory donor and patient snacks
    1. Assist with blood drive and Donor Center blood collection collateral, educational, marketing materials
    1. ii. Assist with recruitment calendars and donor rewards
    1. b. Prepare and maintain donor records
    1. Adheres to the hospital code of conduct and standards for professionalism. Maintains an effective working relationship, and works collaboratively with supervisors, senior technologists, co-workers and other hospital employees.
    1. Employs effective customer service when dealing with donors, patients, the public and staff.
    1. Manages the donor\patients snack area. Orders supplies as needed and keeps the area stocked.
    1. Effectively prioritizes tasks to meet departmental needs.
    1. Other tasks as needed as a member of the recruitment department.
    1. Complies with all hospital safety requirements. Is knowledgeable about hospital policies concerning fire drills, OSHA regulations, hazardous waste management, chemical hygiene plan, and radiation safety.

2. Provide recruitment support utilizing approved Donor Center Programs

i. Donor file preparation and creation when necessary

ii. Returning donor files back to their proper location

iii. Conducting pre-donation screening when appropriate

iv. Preparing daily donor files, including any label creation, necessary print-out and records as appropriate

  1. 6. Comfortable working in an environment where blood products are collected
  1. 7. At ease with handling, and seeing blood products

  1. 9. Able to work independently to complete assigned tasks and as a team member.
  1. 10. Adheres to BWH policies for BT use, tardiness, breaks and computer Internet use.
  1. 11. Familiar with and follows all policies and procedures for the Donor Center.
  1. 12. Position requires work schedule flexibility
