Mott MacDonald is seeking a Drainage Technical Expert to support our portfolio of work for transportation clients in Colorado.This position is open to our Lakewood location as you will be supporting projects throughout California, Colorado, Georgia, and Florida.As a Principal Project Manager, you will be working closely with Senior team members developing effective drainage design solutions, development of WIN strategies, and related tasks.

You will have extensive knowledge in the design of drainage infrastructure for multi-disciplinary projects at concept, feasibility and/or detailed design stages. Experience in drainage is a must for this role while water supply and sewerage will be viewed as a plus in addition to experience on track drainage design. Preparation and review of stormwater infrastructure designs, drawings and technical specifications is also a part of this role.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic design and analysis ofall aspects oftransportation projects, including channels and rivers, ponds, culverts, storm drains, floodplains,andgrading.
  • Prepare and review drawings for final design, construction, detour, water pollution, and erosion control.
  • Stormwater Data Reports, drainage reports, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS.
  • Perform quantity calculations and produce / check engineering analytical data and related information to assure the design and any technical reports are accurate.
  • Development and creation of engineering documents that meet customer quality requirements, with some supervision of staff engineers.
  • Detailed calculations, drawings, procurement documents, design and installation packages, proposal evaluations, technical reports, and detailed analyses.
  • On-site field visits or field investigations.
  • Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designers / Drafters.
  • Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, StormCAD, GIS, MicroStation, and OpenRoads Designer.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex civil infrastructure projects within budget, timeline and to the requirements of the client.
  • Project reporting including progress and finance as required.
  • Create and review project opportunity's scope, budget, and schedules.
  • May manage or assist in the management of projects.
  • Manage and / or lead design services during construction activities.
  • Mentoring and training of junior staff.

We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering (preferably Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources).
    • 15-20 years of working experience with B.S.
    • 14+ years of working experience with M.S.
  • At least 15+ years of progressive experience in managing municipal and DOT infrastructure projectsthrough permitting, construction, and close-out. Candidates with experience managing/constructing roadway infrastructure will be given preference.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Colorado
    • CFM certification preferred.
  • Skillset to effectively manage a team.
  • Proficiency in investigation studies and concept through to detailed design of drainage infrastructure.
  • Highly skilled in 1 & 2D software and hydraulic modelling software such as HEC-RAS, SMS: SRH-2D, and FLO-2D.
  • Proven technical writing and communication skills.
  • Incumbent may be eligible for project management training.
  • Active in Professional Organizations preferred (i.e., ASCE, ASFPM, CASFM, etc.).
  • Local working experience in Denver Metro or adjacent regions is preferred, though not exclusionary.
  • Effective communication and influencing skills.
  • Experience in major civil infrastructure projects.
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in stormwater quality design.
  • Knowledge of hydrology analysis and hydraulic design of culvert and drainage systems of roads and highways.
  • Delivery experience with Construction Manager at Risk, Bid / Build, and Design Build projects.

In compliance with the Pay Transparency Act for Colorado, the expected salary range is from $150,000-170,000. Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
