Unit Coordinator for PACU

We are seeking an experienced administrative profession for a highly visible role within our prestigious Post Anesthesia Care Units (PACU) at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) as a Unit Coordinator.

The PACU at MGH is comprised of 6 individual critical care areas dedicated to the care of adult and pediatric patients preceding and immediately following surgery and/or procedures requiring anesthesia. The unit operates 24 hours per day with Anesthesia and Nurse Practitioner medical coverage.

As a Unit Coordinator, you will . . .

  • Play a critical role in patient care by serving as the central source of information by communicating with patients, families and medical staff.
  • Transcribe medical charts for patients to ensure that the medical treatments and procedures are carried out and order supplies for the unit.
  • Acts as the central contact person for the nursing unit; performs transcription, clerical and reception duties; and will become an expert user in Epic.
  • Work under the direction of the Nurse Manager or designee to coordinate the non-nursing/non-clinical activities essential to the effective functioning of the nursing unit.
  • Requires a high degree of accuracy and strong communications skills.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; Associate Degree preferred
  • Medical or health care experience desirable, but willing to train otherwise qualified candidates
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and procedures
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation and the ability to interact with diverse groups of patients, staff and providers
  • Demonstrated ability to solve basic patient and practice problems
