Overview

We are seeking to hire a highly motivated research technician with experience in wet-lab science, who will contribute to research projects in cancer genomics and epigenomics. The successful candidate will join the team of Dr. Bradley Bernstein and will assist in the execution as well as design of wet-lab experiments and their downstream analysis. The technician will also assist with general lab management tasks as part of a team of technicians. This role will be based at the main Bernstein lab at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, but will include collaboration opportunities with partner laboratories in the Boston area, including the Broad Institute.

The technician will be trained by post-doctoral fellows in the lab as well as the lab manager and senior technicians. The successful candidate will work with a primary post-doctoral fellow in the lab on experiments related in the field of cancer epigenetics, though the technician may also work with other post-doctoral fellows in related project areas or using related techniques. He/she will receive scientific mentoring and career mentoring from Dr. Bernstein and senior lab members. There will be the opportunity to attend scientific retreats and conferences, to present papers at Journal Club, and to present research findings at weekly lab meetings amongst others. A two-year commitment is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs standard experimental procedures as assigned (i.e., pipetting, cell culture, nucleic acid extraction, PCR, molecular cloning, etc.)

  • Executes and troubleshoots gene-knockdown and gene-editing protocols, including CRISPR-Cas9 editing

  • Prepares DNA libraries for Next-Generation and Third-Generation Sequencing, including Illumina and Oxford Nanopore

  • Performs drug treatments and biochemical or pharmacologic assays

  • Maintains lab reagents, chemicals, and research samples in an organized manner

  • Prepares and executes wet-lab experiments as directed

  • Conducts analysis and interpretation of observed results

  • Maintains detailed and accurate scientific records

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required (or expected graduation by the time of job start)

  • Technically meticulous when conducting experiments

  • Highly organized in record-keeping

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Prior wet-lab research experience expected

  • Interest in cancer genomics or epigenomics preferred

  • Experience or interest in computational approaches to genomics (including Python or R coding skills) is a plus

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Knowledge of information and techniques related to either biology, chemistry, or medicine is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
