Our Opening and Your Responsibilities
As a member of the procurement team for an international ISO-registered company, this Strategic Buyer role is responsible for sourcing equipment, goods, and services and managing vendor relationships. You will manage supply chain strategies to deliver the materials, equipment, supplies, and services to the manufacturing and business operations of Mettler Toledo Thronton in a safe, quality focused, timely, and cost-effective manager. This position works closely with Manufacturing Planning, Quality, Engineering, R&D, Marketing, and Finance and reports to the Procurement Manager. Additional responsibilities will include:
  • Managing and driving procurement category spend and supplier relationships to drive high performance regarding safety, quality, delivery, and overall total cost to support sustainable and fast paced growth.
  • Identifying, evaluating, qualifying, and implementing new sources of supply, technologies, and methodologies to support products and processes in alignment with required departments.
  • Reviewing key vendor performance and growing overall vendor partnerships in order to achieve overall stability and growth within the supply chain and mitigating current and future supply risks. This includes regular onsite vendor performance reviews, score cards, and audits in partnership with quality.
  • Negotiating prices and contracts for best total cost for assigned commodities pursuing cost reductions to support corporate targets.
  • Driving procurement success for new product introductions, including DFX, appropriate vendor selection for applicable technologies and needs, and overall supply chain readiness for pilot and launch.
  • Supporting tactical buyers in preventing and expediting critical shortages, investigating root causes for supply chain failures, and development of cohesive, permanent corrective actions.
  • Driving make or buy decisions- identifying materials that can be outsources if not aligned with our core competencies.
  • Analyzing and validating material costs and identifying saving potential as well as driving the implementation in alignment with required departments.
What You Need to Succeed
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in supply chain or operations management.
  • Five to ten years of experience in purchasing/procurement of small-to-mid volume electrical and/or mechanical components commodity in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Current SAP Procurement experience desirable: contracts, PIRs, source lists, purchasing master data, SAP/BI/HANA reporting.
  • Procurement background and solid knowledge of MRP, Kanban programs, and inventory management.
  • Experience implementing and monitoring supplier managed inventory and replenishment programs and processes.
  • Lean Management (Manufacturing) experience and knowledge is desirable.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%, both domestically and internationally.
