Description

Research Assistant (RAI) in the Neuroregeneration Institute (NRI). The NRI is a dynamic research and training environment dedicated to discovering causes and new treatments of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and dementias. The Research Assistant will be an active member of the NRI research team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinate and execute experimental procedures under the guidance of NRI post-doctoral scientists, junior faculty and principal investigators.

2. Carry out in vitro and in vivo assays and models for Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.

3. Perform biochemical, molecular, immunocytochemical and histological assays.

4. Record data, experimental outcomes and data analysis for data compilation.

5. Discuss progress of work regularly with supervisor and principal investigators.

  1. Run statistical analyses on collected data.
  2. Perform general lab upkeep, such as preparing shared solutions and maintaining a clean and tidy work environment; maintains inventory and orders supplies.
  3. Perform all other duties as assigned.


* May perform independent literature searches as directed
* May assist in the basic design and modification of protocols

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

* Computer literacy
* Knowledge of research protocols
* Ability to methodically record data and to analyze data using statistics
* Good interpersonal skills; detail oriented
* Ability to demonstrate professionalism
* Ability to perform routine tests and to prioritize work

Qualifications

EDUCATION:
* BA or BS (required)

EXPERIENCE:

  • BA or BS Degree required.
  • Directly related lab experience desirable but not required.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, and attention to detail are required to ensure the success of ongoing projects in the lab.
  • Works independently under general supervision, supervisor available to handle unusual situations and periodically reviews work.
  • Excellent computer and analytic skills.
