General Summary/Overview Statement

Performs routine installations, maintenance testing, and repairs to piping systems and related equipment. Develops costing estimates to support a "Fee for Service" or cost pay back special project program and supports construction and renovation projects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

2. Reads and interprets blueprints (piping drawings) for various information such as piping size and locations.
3. Prepares material listing as required for work order requests and other routinely assigned task.
4. Communicates with other employees and management on necessary information regarding piping systems.
5. Carries out activities in compliance with appropriate plumbing codes.
6. Works on Acid Waste Systems to ensure efficiency and compliance with standards.
7. Maintains records of all plumbing systems in accordance with department standards.
8. Meets with representative of requester department to assess and prepare estimates for reconstruction, renovation, and/or modernization type projects.
9. Function as lead worker in multiple person project crews. As such, assumes responsibility for team member task assignment, work quality, and timely completion of project.
11. Attends and actively participates in department, team and one on one meetings with supervisor.
12. Provides updates in shift huddles with team members to ensure continuity of services across shifts.
13. Maintains a safe and clean work environment in areas where work is performed and in Engineering department.
14. Closes work order in Maximo to maintain an accurate record of services provided.
15. Completes work in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
17. Upholds BWH values and customer service standards in all interactions within and outside of the Engineering Department.
18. Responds to Code Red calls.
19. Responds to all emergency plumbing situations as required.
20. May be required to carry the on-call pager.
21. May be required to work weekends or rotating shifts.
22. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

2. Requires a minimum of three or more years of experience as a licensed plumber.

3. Must be able to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations at a level generally acquired through a high school education.

Skills and Abilities Required

2. Analytical skills to evaluate piping systems and develop appropriate solutions to plumbing problems.

3. Knowledge of plumbing supplies and equipment and the ability to read blueprints and piping diagrams.

4. Ability to work independently.

Working Conditions

1. May occasionally (less than 15% of the time) get involved in a dirty or hazardous environment in the performance of his/her duties.

2. May be required to work within a containment and/or the containment booth.

3. May be required to work with a respirator.

4. Requires physical ability to lift over 30 lbs. (less than 15% of the time).
