JOB TITLE: Dump Truck Operator (Multi-axle)

DEPARTMENT: Hanes Construction -

REPORTS TO: Trucking Superintendent

DUTIES: Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a diesel-powered tandem axle, triaxle, or quad-axle dump truck. Load material, stone, plant material, rap, asphalt, dirt, etc. from stationary silos, loaders, asphalt plants, or hoppers, and transport safely and legally to specified locations and deliver to plants, pavers, stone base crews, or projects. Operator will perform all functions of operating the dump truck including but not limited to: rolling and unrolling dump bed cover, collecting and signing and turning in delivery tickets, servicing and cleaning the truck, and assisting in lubricating, adjusting, and making minor repairs. Requires exceptional driving skills and attention with the ability and responsibility of maneuvering truck in difficult locations such as projects, asphalt plants, quarries, sand pits, and paving crews. Requires exceptional driving skills and attention in driving trucks on inter-city highways and streets. Must file and maintain all appropriate logs, vehicle condition reports, truck mileage and fuel reporting. Must maintain a current knowledge of DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Must understand and comply with several different sets of weight laws. Must inspect truck twice daily (pre-trip and post-trip inspections) making sure that assigned truck complies with all applicable DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

PHYSICAL DEMAND: Truck handling and exposure to all types of terrain and rough riding conditions. Climbing up and down. Pass and maintain a DOT physical.

MENTAL & VISUAL DEMAND: Requires exceptional driving attention in difficult locations, on highways and city streets, and in areas where other workers are located on construction sites often in unpaved and ungraded areas. Requires attention to the following:

  1. Compliance to all laws related to legal load limits and truck routes.
  2. Loading truck.
  3. Dumping truck on stockpiles, spreading stone, or in pavers.
  4. Proper securing of loads.
  5. Constant attention to mechanical condition of truck and gauges, buzzers, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR:

EQUIPMENT: Dump Truck and all related safety equipment.

MATERIALS: Stone, asphalt, RAP, etc.

SAFETY: Constant exposure to driving hazards.

REQUIREMENTS: Class " A" or Class "B'" CDL

WORK OF OTHERS: Follow the directions of dump person or flag person. Take directions from different foremen, superintendents, project personnel, or plant supervisors. Understand traffic control procedures in construction areas, being able to ingress and egress construction site safety.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposed to most weather conditions. Exposed to heat and dust around asphalt plants and quarries. Exposed to driving conditions on interstates, highways, city, suburban, and construction sites.

COMMENTS: Must be able to read and understand road signs and maps. Responsible for all traffic violations. Requires valid commercial drivers license, proper CDL endorsements, and must maintain an acceptable DMV report.
