Overview

The Associate Director/Director of Business Development, will be an ambitious salesperson who independently works to identify, qualify, negotiate, and close opportunities for Fujifilm Cellular Dynamics, Inc.'s (FCDI) iPSC-focused licensing and CDMO business. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively across the organization to maximize revenue and profitability and grow our CDMO sales pipeline. This individual contributor role will contribute to high-impact decisions on deals that support the continued commercial success of FCDI. This remote position, ideally located in the Boston/Cambridge, MA area, with travel required of up to 65%.

Essential Responsibilities

    Independently bring high-value deals to the table and manage opportunities from identification through qualification, proposal, negotiation and deal closure stages to achieve revenue and profitability targets
  1. Visit customers and attend relevant conferences, trade shows and other customer-related events to promote FCDI's CDMO offerings
  2. Coordinate sales calls with C-level and senior leaders at client accounts; prepare and lead presentations and facilitate site visits
  3. Work closely and collaboratively with Project Management, Quality, Technical Operations, R&D and other relevant groups to lead generation and presentation of proposals
  4. Work with customers as well as internal Legal and IP to generate and negotiate terms and language of business agreements to support new licensing and manufacturing partnerships
  5. Gather market and scientific intelligence, assess where we are winning and losing in the iPSC cell therapy and CDMO markets and create strategies to drive short-, mid- and long-term growth
  6. Support a global territory with heavy focus on the US East Coast
  7. Leverage a strong network within the cell therapy industry and build relationships with key decision makers
  8. Other job functions as assigned

Required Skills and Education

  • Strong, independent hunter able to aggressively prospect and increase revenue with new and existing clients
  • Previous role as Business Development Manager, Sr. Business Development Manager or Director of Business Development
  • 10 years or more of relevant combined commercial experience in sales, business development and licensing; with 5 years' CDMO business development experience required
  • Experience in cell therapy CDMO setting and understanding of cell therapy market landscape is highly preferred
  • Track record of negotiating contracts within the advanced therapy, pharmaceutical and/or CDMO space, with demonstrated, quantifiable achievements and deal closures as evidenced by deal sheet
  • Understanding of CMC concepts, process and analytical development, and cGMP manufacturing requirements as well as regulatory and environmental issues relevant for the cell therapy industry
  • Bachelor's degree in business or scientific discipline; advanced scientific degree and/or MBA preferred
  • Highly proficient in contract language comprehension, deal structuring, communication and negotiation, which facilitates deal closure within the biotechnology industry
  • Strong strategic thinking; experience and ability to develop and articulate complex strategic issues and ideas (e.g., technological/licensing strategy, corporate strategy)
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask and work in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Possesses strong collaboration, delegation and interpersonal communications skills and shares critical information with project team and senior leaders
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, influence others and drive projects forward by mobilizing individuals with diverse perspectives and functional talents to generate shared solutions
  • Demonstrated analytical and logic skills with a focus on fact-based decision making as it relates to market analysis, scoping, and qualification of prospects
  • Nimble and agile; must be able to work on multiple projects with overlapping timelines and meet all deadlines; needs to be able to quickly digest and prioritize information.
  • Ability to travel - up to 65% - including international travel to all global territories as required
