The Opportunity

We are seeking a 40-hour Physician Assistant to join the Spine Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. The team is looking for added mid-level support five days per week (Monday-Friday) with flexibility on how the hours are staggered. The Spine Center is located at 372 Washington Street, Newton, 02458.

Under the clinical supervision of the Chief of the service line, the Physician Assistant will oversee and participate in the care of patients with both acute and chronic back pain primarily in the outpatient setting, with additional involvement in the inpatient setting to facilitate continuity of care. Based on evaluation and diagnostics tests, the PA will triage patients to the appropriate level of care which can include physical therapy, surgery, and physiatry.

The Physician Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Performing evaluations
  • Ordering appropriate diagnostic tests
  • Coordinating and participating in treatment plans including pain management in adherence to the Standards of Practice for Opioid management
  • Navigating patients to appropriate level of care and provider support
  • Monitoring and documenting patient progress
  • Educating patients for discharge
  • Supporting the Spine Center Case Conference
  • Participating in Quality Improvement Initiatives

Qualifications
  • Certificate of registration from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration of Nurse Practitioners
  • CPR (BLS/ACLS) certification required
  • 3 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider preferred
  • 1 year of experience in related ortho/spine patient care preferred
