Job Description

Group Description

Research in Stanley Center at Broad Institute aims to reveal the genetic, molecular, cellular and circuitry underpinnings of psychiatric disorders, and eventually to develop novel effective treatments. A postdoctoral position is available to study the brain development, synapse/neural circuit function and neurobiological mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders.

Brief Summary

We seek candidates who are interested in decoding the biological causes of psychiatric diseases, such as schizophrenia, autism and bipolar disorders. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team at the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research. Individuals with excellent past record of research achievement in electrophysiology, in particular synaptic and circuitry physiology studies, are encouraged to apply. The candidates are expected to perform in vitro and in vivo electrophysiological studies using multiple models ranging from in iPSCs/ES-based cells, 3D brain organoids, acute brain slices to in vivo extracellular multi-electrodes recordings . Excellent technical optimization and problem-solving skills will be required. Experience with optical electrophysiology, behavioral tests, and programming (MATLAB) is a plus.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions

* Implement and develop in vitro and in vivo electrophysiological protocols and assays

* Interact and coordinate with collaborators as required
* Publish scholarly reports and present at scientific conferences
* Participate within a team of scientists to foster a culture of scientific discourse and excellence

* Other related tasks as need

* Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Cell biology or related field. Prior postdoctoral experience in not an essential.

* Demonstrated technical proficiency in electrophysiological techniques (such as whole-cell patch clamp recordings, extracellular field potential recordings and single unit or multi-unit recordings).

* Embracing technical challenges and having excellent capability of trouble shooting.

* Outstanding personal initiative and communication skills.
* Must work well in a team environment.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
