Job Description

The highly interdisciplinary and collaborative proteomics group at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is looking for strongly motivated post-doctoral associates with relevant experience to step into exciting, highly visible and impactful roles in internationally-recognized efforts to develop, adapt and integrate microscopy-based imaging techniques to state-of-the-art proteomics technologies and tackle questions related to spatial biology, tissue organization and intercellular interactions.

An ideal candidate must have experience in cellular and tissue imaging including hands-on-microscopy, imaging automation and data analysis and willingness and aptitude to develop and apply robust technologies interfacing microscopy with tissue proteomics.

Successful candidates will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, biologists, computational and proteomics scientists at the Broad and with an international group of renowned partner institutions. The anticipated projects aim to deeply characterize and understand the spatial diversity of proteomes and their post-translational modification in tissues and model systems. A key outcome for successful candidates is that they will become an expert in state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based tissue proteomics workflows and data interpretation.

Candidates must have:

  • an MD and/or Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, or a closely related field.
  • cellular and tissue imaging including hands-on microscopy, automation, and imaging data analysis.
  • experience with formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue processing and/or laser capture microscopy.
  • excellent scientific productivity, evidenced by high-quality research publications in peer reviewed journals.
  • a track record of conducting independent and creative research.
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Practical skills and knowledge in one or more of the following areas will be considered beneficial:

  • state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based proteomics.
  • single-cell genomic or proteomic technologies.
  • computational pathology skills and software knowledge.
  • understanding of cell signaling pathways/networks.
  • cell biology/ biochemical methods to understand protein function.
  • molecular biology/CRISPR-based genome editing.
  • experience with Flow cytometry.

The Broad Institute is a world-leading non-profit research organization dedicated to realizing the promise of the post-genomic era for human benefit. Located in Cambridge, MA with strong ties to MIT, Harvard, and world class Boston hospitals, the Broad Institute brings together scientists of diverse backgrounds to solve critical problems in biology and medicine in an interdisciplinary manner. The Broad Institute, and the embedded Proteomics Group (www.broadinstitute.org/proteomics), have an outstanding track-record in training the next generation of research scientists and in developing and applying proteomic technologies critical to address important questions in biology and medicine. We collaborate with top-level researchers throughout the world, and results of these studies and our technology developments are published in top-tier journals. Broad proteomics has also been a long-standing member of one of the key NCI funded proteogenomic consortium, the cancer proteomic tumor analysis consortium (CPTAC) and the successful candidate will play a key role in defining and leading one of more CPTAC flagship projects in collaboration with a large team of senior scientists, computational biologists and research associates within our group and across multiple CPTAC teams.

Interested scientists are encouraged to apply on-line at the Broad Website. Inquiries can also be addressed to Dr. Shankha Satpathy (Senior Group Leader, ), Dr. Steven Carr (Senior Director, ) and, Dr. Namrata Udeshi (Associate Director, )

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
