Job Details:

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures to obtain and record interpretable diagnostic information for the medical staff.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to perform obstetrical ultrasound exams in all trimesters including detailed fetal survey in accordance with AIUM requirements.
  • Ability to accurately perform Doppler studies including but not limited to umbilical artery, ductus venosus and mid-cerebral artery.
  • Provide ultrasound guidance for invasive procedures such as amniocentesis, Chorionic Villis Sampling (CVS), Percutaneous Umbilical Blood Sampling (PUBS).
  • Perform Nuchal Translucency scans.
  • Obtains all clinical information available through charts, lab tests, etc. prior to exams.
  • Present ultrasound findings to interpreting physician.
  • Teaches fellows, residents ,and students proper use of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool.
  • Follow appropriate cleaning procedures for specialized equipment.
  • Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment.
  • Attend department lectures including but not limited to Fetal Anomaly Boards and Prenatal Diagnosis Rounds
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
Job Qualifications:

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.

EDUCATION:

  • Successful completion of an accredited ultrasound program.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum one-year clinical experience in medical ultrasonography.

LICENSES, ETC.:

  • ARDMS registered in OB/GYN
  • Nuchal Translucency certification preferred (must be obtained within 60 days of hire)

Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:

  • Knowledge of growth and development
  • Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care
  • Provide age specific communication

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Position requires moving heavy equipment and patients.
  • Works in sterile fields when performing invasive procedures.
  • Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, patients families, and other personnel throughout the hospital.
