OPPORTUNITY
The primary purpose of this position is to gain practical experience in an industrial setting focusing on facility & equipment reliability. This Intern will work closely with the maintenance team and be guided with projects to improve the PM effectiveness, failure coding / reporting, mean time reporting and technician efficiency studies.
The internship runs from May 2023 - August 2023 with a chance to work Part-Time after summer.
Overview of Expectations
- Continually practice the principals of the Hydrite Waterloo Code of Conduct and Safety Mission, Vision and Values.
- This role will be responsible for gathering and analyzing data, implement new or modified plans and conducts other varied facilities tasks.
- Author / edit modifications to procedures to enhance reliability team's performance.
- Be exposed to planning and scheduling facilities maintenance and repair activities to ensure proper functioning of facilities.
- Assess and evaluate the physical space requirements of the team, then build a presentation of recommended plans that improves our safe use, accessibility, ergonomics and efficiency of our spaces.
- Gather and review data concerning facility or equipment specifications.
- Review and estimate design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs.
- Be introduced to the evaluation of the facility's proper functioning through ongoing inspection and maintenance.
- Conduct machine inventories and have exposure to the disposal process of obsolete and / or no-longer-required equipment.
- Be briefed on relevant environmental, health & safety (EHS) protocols, state and federal regulations and SOPP's.
- Provide technical analysis for projects as assigned.
- Assist in implementation of maintenance projects and activities, where appropriate.
- Perform engineering clerical-type duties as assigned.
- Investigate, evaluate, and implement process related cost saving improvements such as waste reduction, parts management, preventative maintenance, and shelf life improvements.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
- This position reports to the Plant Maintenance Manager.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL CRITERIA
- Preferred: Enrollment in accredited university in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. (Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical).
- Enrollment in accredited university in pursuit of an Associate degree. Preferably - Industrial Maintenance or Engineering Technology field.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Power Point (or equivalent software applications) is beneficial.
- Ability to build and deliver a presentation.
- Demonstrated leadership skills preferred. (Candidate may have opportunity to lead installation crews on small capital projects)
