Position Summary:

The Finance Intern helps in the development and implementation of processes and practices for financial compliance, reporting, tax and accounting. The position provides for hands-on experience by working under a finance manager, tax manager and accounting manager or senior accountant, to understand and follow business practices. The position should allow the intern to apply his/her theoretical knowledge of accounting and finance in his/her day to day work.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with processing tax returns and other business filings
  • Maintain a system for tracking valid exemption certificates for existing customers
  • Process monthly and quarterly bank and other journal entries
  • Process Accounts Payable transactions as assigned
  • Assist with sales order review as needed
  • Maintain corporate general ledger through account reconciliations, journal entries
  • Maintain KPI files as well as developing new department metrics.
  • Various finance projects as required


Required Qualifications:

  • Expertise in numbers and good math skills
  • Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of accounting and financial analysis
  • Able to collect, evaluate and interpret data, in both statistical and narrative form
  • Capable of preparing files and maintaining records and documentation
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Other skills required are related to problem solving, entering and verifying data, knowledge of computers, various software applications and standard office equipment
  • Self-motivated and directed with a continuous improvement mindset
