Scientist II
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In Bayer's Pharmaceuticals division, we focus on researching, developing, and marketing specialty-focused innovative medicines that provide significant clinical benefit and value, primarily in the therapeutic areas of cardiology, oncology, gynecology, hematology and ophthalmology. With our innovative products, we seek to achieve therapeutic benefit for patients, while at the same time satisfying the growing requirements of physicians and health insurers. As one of the leading research-based pharmaceutical companies worldwide, we have nearly 50 ongoing development projects in clinical trials.

The primary responsibilities of this role, Scientist II, are to:
- Advance disease biology understanding and target identification in lung diseases using genomics / transcriptomics / metabolomics / proteomics approaches;
- Apply the findings of target identification studies in the area of lung diseases to identify new mechanisms, pathways and druggable targets for the development of novel, causative therapies;
- Plan and execute studies to validate and understand the biology of identified target and new mechanisms together with our strategic collaboration partner;
- Drive the process of drug development for validated mechanisms and targets together with our strategic collaboration partner;
- Drive continuous improvement in methodology, processes and formats through own expertise and experience;
- Project management of target discovery projects;
- Communication and interaction with interdisciplinary project teams;
- Participate in scientific meetings, seminars and represents the strategic collaboration at internal and external meetings and conferences;
- Perform other related responsibilities as necessitated by the position.

Required qualifications:
- Doctorate or Doctor of Philosophy in natural sciences (genetics, molecular biology, immunology), or medical science, plus four years of related work or postdoctoral/fellowship experience;
- Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and the ability to adapt to the atmosphere of a dynamic research organization;
- Creative and flexible thinking, being open minded and challenging the status quo;
- Able to build excellent working relationships, to initiate new collaborative projects and to take a hands on approach to collaborative scientific discovery efforts;
- Must enjoy working in a fast paced, cutting edge and challenging environment;
- Ability and willingness to think "outside the box" to develop and adopt relevant emerging technologies;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong record of research publications and high profile scientific presentations.
Preferred qualifications:
- Proven track record of successful scientific working, postdoctoral fellowship;
- Solid background in fibrotic or inflammatory diseases;
- Experience with cellular and/or animal modeling of lung or inflammatory disease biology;
- Knowledge of computational biology and experience in computational pipelines for analyzing of large datasets, such as single cell genomics / transcriptomics.
