Vertex Pharmaceuticals is currently searching for a talented, highly motivated and creative bench research scientist to join a dynamic research team dedicated to discovering new therapeutic agents for serious renal diseases. Candidates will report directly to the program leader. This position will focus on establishing cellular models of disease using advanced cellular biology techniques. The applicant should have a strong background in primary cell culture, iPSC-derived culture and/or organoid culture. The applicant will be integrated into a fast-paced drug discovery team.

The successful candidate must have obtained a doctorate degree (Ph.D) in Cellular, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or any related field with in-depth knowledge in primary cell culture. The candidate will be joining a drug discovery team focused on developing novel therapeutics for serious kidney diseases which will change the course of human health.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently design and execute key studies to understand disease biology, elucidate mechanism of action at the molecular and cellular level, and support drug discovery projects;
  • Perform advanced/complex experimental troubleshooting;
  • Critically analyze and interpret complex data, and effectively document and communicate results to a variety of audiences;
  • Contribute effectively to the projects in a multi-disciplinary team environment;
  • Apply and master several techniques in Cell Biology (cell/tissue cultures) and Molecular Biology (quantification of gene expression, mutagenesis studies, etc.);
  • Contribute significantly to Microscopy (Immunofluorescence and/or High Content Imaging) and/or Flow cytometry experiments;
  • Implement a strategy to discover novel therapeutic agents in several therapeutic areas to support drug discovery programs;
  • Provide strong scientific and technical leadership, utilizing extensive technical expertise in new technology/techniques to support drug discovery;
  • Work effectively with colleagues

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ph.D./Post Doc in in Cellular, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or any related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in primary or iPS cell culture

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to achieve goals within an allotted timeframe, and deliver high quality results;

Strong analytical capabilities and scientific critical judgment

Ability to work in a fast-paced and ever changing environment,

Strong communication skills and ability to work cross functionally within teams.
